Life
Life is not at all what I thought it would be in my youth. It is surely not what I think it is in my middle age. I suspect it will not actually be what I think in my old age either. The reality that I know little and understand less is looming larger and larger. Yet, there is still a question we must grapple with while there is time and life left to be lived. What is our life supposed to be?...

Submit not to the will of men but to the will of the Father, not to the authority of men but to the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to the leadership of men but to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Then, having done so, we will humbly submit ourselves one to another in the fear of God, serving one another in love.

Expectant Faith
Faith in the promises of God should produce a confident expectation in the believer. In fact, a lack of expectation is sinful. If we don’t expect God to follow through on His promises, we are implying that He is not faithful, not true and is, in fact, capable of lying. God has promised He will not let us be tempted beyond our ability and with each temptation He will provide a way of...

Spiritual preaching and teaching requires one to spend as much time with their knees on the floor as with their nose in a book.

Preachers and teachers should spend as much time preparing the messenger as they spend preparing the message.

Preachers are messengers
Being a messenger of God is a responsibility that is both easy and difficult at the same time. It is easy because all you have to do is deliver a message. It is difficult because you must not mix in your own message. Few preachers seem to see themselves as delivering a message received. Rather, they see themselves as delivering a message prepared. The difference is dramatic. God is under no...

When Fear and Love are Mixed
The fearsomeness of God is often shunned to focus on His love. Many say we are not to fear Him, that His grace and mercy should overcome our fear. Yet fear of God is the beginning of knowledge, understanding and wisdom (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10). We cannot rightly know or understand the love, mercy or grace of God except when we fear Him properly. Only when we realize how fearsome He is are we...

Who's fault is it, anyway?
Politicians in the United States are blamed by many for the moral decline of our country. They are scrutinized twenty-four hours a day on news channels. All the while, those truly responsible are given a free pass. The preachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ are the ones at fault. Most have exchanged the difficult demands of repentance for the easy pleasures of self-indulgence.
